Case of Poisoning by the Mylabris Cichorii (Telini Fly)

Poisoning by the vesicating coleoptera is of rare occurrence, and as I cannot find any account of it having ever happened with this particular beetle, would desire to place the following case on record : Private W. W., previously a healthy man, was brought to hospital at 4 a.m. of 29th July, with symptoms which at once gave rise to suspicion of irritant poison. He had severe pain in the stomach, constant vomiting, great prostration, and a large patch of the centre of his tongue was denuded of epithelium, raw, and almost bleeding. During the day he suffered much from strangury and tenesmus, and passed blood both from his bladder and bowels.
